    Describe the challenge you want to address:
    Violence rates in teens and graduation rates go hand in hand. Queens graduation rates are 15-20% lower than Manhattan and other competitive metropolitan areas in New York City. Young adults and teenagers are not able to see their potential surrounded by the chaos, violence, and over stimulation of New York City. The problem solving skills that these teenagers develop are often a result of their immediate surroundings or learned behavior. Whereas, if given the opportunity to explore problem solving skills outside of their metropolitan area and into the vast landscapes of nature. With constant over stimulation, teenagers are becoming more anxious and introverted. If given the opportunity the explore the globe or nation, they have the ability to become more independent and responsible young adults. Racism, sexism, and other dividing mentalities are often learned in the home or community. It is not until one travels that one begins to break down stereotypes and open themselves up to a different world of perspectives. For example, show the people of London that Americans aren’t loud or obnoxious, but are curious and excited about life!\nShow the people of Japan that you are polite and eager to learn about their culture! Without exposing the younger generation to the possibilities of the world, the next generation of leaders will be closed minded, self centered, and unworldly.
    What is the solution to the challenge?
    The Zinniah Bloom program serves as a environmental, sustainability, cultural equity, and civic engagement program. This program will foster leadership by encouraging civic engagement and a deeper understanding of both local and global social issues, preparing young people for leadership roles in the 21st century. It seeks to equip the next generation of global leaders with innovative skills and cultural competency, enabling them to lead inclusively in an increasingly interconnected world. This experience builds on the leadership development of teens already involved in Zinniah Foundation’s youth programs.
