- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- Many seniors in public housing specifically struggle with learning new technology for availing online services. These include booking doctors' appointments, getting on Zoom/online meetings, checking their credit score, and accessing specific services that are available to them. Technology literacy and competency is increasingly important for seniors, for making programs and services more accessible while managing risks of COVID. Technology is also being used a lot more for communication and engagement, and older adults in public housing face many barriers in engagement. Service providers also struggle to engage with the older residents due to a variety of issues including lack of technological access and literacy.
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- Volunteers could meet with seniors on a regular basis to help them learn to use their phones and computers and improve technology literacy. This would help them avail online services in a way that is conscious of accessibility concerns and COVID.
