Changes at "Education to Prevent Airborne Infectious Diseases for K-12 Students, Staff & Families in NYC Public Schools"

    To better educate students, teachers, school staff & families, on the many ways airborne infectious diseases (i.e. COVID, RSV, Flu, Mpox, etc..) are transmitted, cause acute & long-term harm, can effectively be prevented by use of layered mitigations, can be treated, and how to effectively advocate for better airborne prevention (including cleaning the indoor air you share with others ) where you work, learn, worship, play, and gather.\n\nNot only is the likelihood of students in grades K-12 contracting an airborne infectious disease while attending school, greater than the risk of contracting HIV in the same environment, but once infected, they can go on to infect and harm their friends, teachers, family members and anyone they interact with on public transit to/from school and during other activities. Early education on airborne infectious disease prevention will keep everyone safer, healthier, and at work and in school.
    What is the solution to the challenge?
    The solution is a 3-pronged education program. The first prong involves teaching students in grades K-12 in every NYC Public School throughout the school year. It could be similar to or incorporated with the current “HIV Lessons” modules that are taught in NYC Public Schools in grades K-5, five times per year, and in grades 7-12, six times per year. The second prong involves training teachers and school staff. The third prong involves workshops for families and caregivers.
