- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- The pervasive lack of accessible, equitable, and community-focused mental health services in New York City. This includes gaps in preventive care, crisis intervention, and long-term recovery supports, particularly for underserved communities and marginalized populations.
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- • Expanding Mental Health Clinics: Open or enhance community mental health centers with trained professionals to provide therapy, counseling, and peer support. • Mental Health Education: Develop community-based education programs to reduce stigma, raise awareness, and teach coping strategies. • Mobile Mental Health Services: Create or improve mobile units to bring mental health services to neighborhoods with limited access. • Crisis Intervention Teams: Fund crisis teams equipped to handle mental health emergencies without reliance on law enforcement. • Peer-Led Initiatives: Empower individuals with lived experience to lead mental health recovery programs and support groups.
