- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- It is very intimidating and time consuming to walk into a precinct and report a crime. And yet, 311 does not handle all quality of life complaints or reports of seeing something like a fight break out on the subway
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- A website or simple form to report a quality of life or small crime complaint. We aren’t tracking these things yet the mayor keeps saying the city is “very safe”. New Yorkers don’t feel that way. Just because murders are down doesn’t mean we aren’t seeing and experiencing other reduction in quality of life in nyc.

- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- Last year I saw a very violent fight break out on the subway. It was terrifying. I wasn’t sure if it would escalate, everyone on the train was terrified. Yet when the train stopped all I did was get off as quickly as possible. I called 311 the next day and they couldn’t help. I was too busy and intimidated to go to a precinct. \n\nIt is very intimidating and time consuming to walk into a precinct and report a crime. And yet, 311 does not handle all quality of life complaints or reports of seeing something like this example. Just because murder is down, mayor, doesn’t mean we are in the “safest big city in America”. New Yorkers still don’t feel safe.
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- A website or simple form to report a quality of life or small crime complaint. I think it is a huge gap that we aren’t reporting on these metrics.
