- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- Too many go without affordable access to healthy, organic options. Providing our NYC community the tools and resources to grow their own will empower people to pursue healthy lives and will enable them to save money. Additionally, the legalization of cannabis in NYC continues to fail to properly address the social inequities within our communities as the exclusionary licensing process is too expensive for many. Allowing community gardens to cultivate the plant will enable others to gain access and can potentially lead to significant social change within our most impoverished communities.
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- "Give a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man to fish he eats forever." NYC residents need the resources to understand how to easily grow their own, often within their own spaces and with resources that can be attained. We Grow NYC Inc. is hoping to identify land spaces in each borough to develop community growing centers (indoor and outdoor facilities), that will directly support our community. The community would receive direct growing support from professionals through workshops and virtual programs.
