Real-time enforcement of on-street EV charging station parking
- Do you have specific Neighborhood(s) in mind?

- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- The city has already installed some on-street EV charging stations. More are needed, but in the meanwhile the ones which already exist are routinely being blocked by non-EV cars parked in those spots, making it difficult to charge an EV or Plug-in Hybrid EV. There is a lack of enforcement making it more difficult than it needs to be to charge your vehicle.
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- Install sensors at EV charging stations which detect the presence of cars in these spots. The sensors can do two things: (1) collect metrics on how often spots are utilized without charging a vehicle, which can help inform the demand for additional EV chargers needed vs. more aggressive enforcement, and (2) real-time data to traffic enforcement so that more tickets can be written more quickly, actively discouraging this behavior.
