- Our community is full of families, people of all ages who love and need nature but we have no community garden, no place for folks of all backgrounds to engage with plants, flowers and ecology. We would benefit hugely from a community garden/farm that includes art, education and hands on experience.
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- I have a flower farm and vegetable garden around my home. I grow flowers there for my flower shop on Cortelyou road. Many neighbors know it because we grow vegetables prominently in the front yard and each year grow tomatoes for neighbors to see and harvest along the sidewalk. I propose to open the farm up and transform it into a working community garden/flower farm that continues to be a real flower farm but that involves the community in all aspects: sowing seeds, watering, soil improvement, pest management, harvesting,
