- Our target audience faces challenges resulting from socioeconomic hardship. These challenges include: limited access to high-quality education, misguided mentorship and empowerment, barriers to accessing employment and job training, limited involvement in community and volunteer opportunities, need for exposure to arts and culture, and need for housing safety/stability
- Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
- Our group is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to youth and families facing multifaceted challenges resulting from socioeconomic hardship. Our mission is to empower these resilient individuals with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to overcome obstacles and cultivate their potential. We are proposing a partnership with a community based/non-profit organization whose work demonstrates a commitment to dismantling barriers, unlocking potential,\nand nurturing the resilience of youth in Harlem. We believe that, with the right support and opportunities, every young person can chart a course toward a future filled with success, fulfillment, and positive community impact. Through our partnership, we seek to provide professional development to staff, expand volunteerism among community members, and ensure programming is engaging and accessible to the community. We aim to enhance the impact of programs that\ntarget the following areas:\n\n1. Holistic Education Support:\n○ Tutoring and academic assistance for core subjects.\n○ Access to educational resources and technology.\n○ Workshops on study skills, time management, and goal setting College tours\n\n2. Guided Mentorship and Empowerment Programs:\n○ One-on-one mentorship pairings with experienced and caring mentors.\n○ Empowerment workshops focusing on building confidence, resilience, and leadership skills.\n○ Personal development plans tailored to each participant's goals and aspirations.\n\n3. Employment Readiness and Job Training:\n○ Job readiness workshops covering resume building, interview skills, and workplace etiquette.\n○ Access to vocational training programs for in-demand skills.\n○ Internship and job placement assistance through partnerships with local businesses.\n\n4. Community Engagement and Volunteer Opportunities:\n○ Facilitation of community service initiatives to instill a sense of civic responsibility.\n○ Networking events connecting youth with local community leaders and professionals.\n○ Volunteer opportunities to build a sense of purpose and community connection.\n\n5. Arts, Culture, and Exposure Programs:\n○ Art and cultural workshops, providing exposure to diverse creative expressions.\n○ Access to performances, exhibits, and events to broaden cultural horizons.\n○ Opportunities for youth to showcase their talents and creativity.\n\n6. Financial Literacy\n○ Partner with local financial institutions to educate scholars and parents about financial literacy.\n○ Pair youth with a local business owner to be mentored and learn client-facing 1:1 experience.\n○ Develop and present business plans to mentors and other program participants for prize money towards business start up.
