What idea do you have to address the problem?
A trash can on every (or every other) corner between Empire and Church Ave, Flatbush Ave through Nostrand Ave (at least). An organized monthly volunteer neighborhood clean-up Saturday morning, coordinated with the local community gardens and businesses/organizations. While promoting the clean-ups to local business, this person (or someone else in the department) will also remind landlords/supers and business owners of rules re: keeping their sidewalk space clean. (There should be fines associated with not doing this, by the way.) This will serve the entire neighborhood. The state of the neighborhood's cleanliness is awful. Trash cans are often overflowing because there aren't enough of them. Sidewalk space is littered in trash. And the city's non-commitment to helping main the streets encourages more disregard for cleaning. We've had a few volunteer cleanups and it's clear that people are really eager to both participate and see a cleaner PLG. This can only bring about good things: more business, more renters, more neighborhood camaraderie.
