The People's Money (2022-2023)
Your Money, Your Community, Your Voice.
Another Path to Success
What problem would you like to solve?
Lack of alternate career paths for the youth of the South Bronx, especially the young black male population.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Youth are constantly being bombarded with messages that college is the only path to success. It is relevant that the youth should be able to choose an alternate career path and not be forced into an educational system that does not provide them with the tools for their interests. There is a lack of educational programming for skilled certifications and career guidance in our community.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Offer free educational programming that would allow participants to obtain a certification in various subjects areas such as plumbing, electrician, optician, etc., along with guidance in navigating this process and finding jobs in the field.
Who would that help?
Unemployment affects everyone in the community negatively, not just the ones who are unemployed. This would help the community to succeed on a broad level.
What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?
Mott Haven, Port Morris, Melrose
