What problem would you like to solve?
The problem of how the artistically rooted art form of Hip Hop, which is indigenous to our district, often negatively conditions, influences, and shapes our culture's consciousness in a way that can be detrimental.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Hip Hop is the most dominant artistic culture in our society, particularly in the South Bronx community. It crosses all other cultural boundaries and creates a bridge between multiple cultures and communities. We need to wield that power constructively.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Create a HIp Hop Education program for the youth that teaches the power of the art form and the importance of utilizing it in a way that is beneficial. The course would teach language arts, music, STEM, and history, to name a few.
Who would that help?
The youth in the South Bronx community.
What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?
Mott Haven, Port Morris, Melrose
