What problem would you like to solve?
Providing outlets for young males ages 11-17 to be mentored, and exposed to higher education, college prep, homework help, community conversations.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
We live in a high crime city. It is up to the older generation of men in the city to take youth under their wings and mentor them toward a goal of college or a trade, and completing their education so that they can find appropriate avenues to channel their energy.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Men Talk Youth Engagement would serve as a Mentor/Mentee Program on a local level. Neighborhood men would adopt a young person, monitor and communicate with them, and create a pipeline to employment, and college through application preparation, essay writing, homework help, and college preparedness events.
Who would that help?
Young Men between the ages of 11-17, Mentored by Older men 21-65
What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?
Bedford Stuyvesant
