The People's Money (2022-2023)
Your Money, Your Community, Your Voice.
You Can be Anything
What problem would you like to solve?
Children get bottlenecked into either going to college or end up in poverty after highschool. There are a ton of jobs that these kids don't know exist that do not require a college degree that are in need of people and pay well.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Low income communities are full of drug dealers because these kids figure they have no other options besides playing sports, being rappers or going to college, which just continues the cycle of poverty when they don't make it.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Starting in Junior and Senior year of highschool have regular job lessons and job fairs for unconventional jobs. Maybe every Friday of the school year there is a focus on teaching about different professions, have presenters give presentations on their job, and maybe drive the kids out to some of the job sites so the kids can see what it's like in person e.g. farmers, policemen, firefighters, wielders, plumbers, electricians, contractors, ferry operators, garbagemen, pilots, lawyers, chefs, general mangers, hospitality, etc...
Who would that help?
Low income communities, and industries that need workers.
What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?
All of NYC, but we can start in the Bronx.
