What problem would you like to solve?
There is a lack of job training in schools. Not everyone wants to go to college, and that is okay. We need training to help us learn how to work in different fields, different trades. This should start in high school.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Not everyone wants to go to college. Not everyone who goes to college is succesful. There are different trades and jobs that make more money without a college degree. We should be training people in those jobs, and preparing people for careers in different spaces that arent traditional.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Schools or afterschool sites should have mandatory job training for people in their second year of highschool through senior year. At least showing people the different types of jobs and trades available, such as elevator repair, electrician, plumbing, etc. Many of these jobs are union jobs that pay very well and have benefits that help people in retirement. We should promote and train in these fields in our communities. THe college rate for POC in our communities is already low, we should try to help people who otherwise cannot afford college or who do not thrive in traditional school settings to get experience and learn alternative trades.
Who would that help?
Everyone who does not want to go to college.
What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?
Manhattan/dyckman
