Information Dissemination
What problem would you like to solve?
There are many already existing programs that many in the city have no knowledge of. Some more recent ones that I’ve just happened to find out about from word of mouth are the availability of telescopes and sewing machines at local libraries, and free camping nights with NYC Parks.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Our city already supports programs, many of which I’m still not aware of, that many people would love to be a part of. Many of these can help New Yorkers become more in touch with nature and science, or learn skills that they otherwise wouldn’t even think they’d be able to. Telescopes can be expensive, but if a child knew that they could borrow one from a library, then maybe they would, and then potentially a new astronomer is born.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Spreading information through ads on trains, train stations, buses, bus stops, LinkNYC kiosks, and farmer’s markets for
- Public programming
- Free events and services
- State and Federal parks events
- Nature in general, enhancing awareness of local and visiting species of birds, animals, and plants by partnering with conservation groups
- Little known features like sewing machines, telescopes, games, and musical instruments that can be borrow from libraries
Information should be offered in multiple languages
Who would that help?
Everyone in the community would be receiving information that they otherwise might not.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
