Planting an apple orchard in Central Park
What problem would you like to solve?
Building a stronger community.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Enables families from all over to participate in a healthy activity
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Especially since Covid, there has been a desperate need to reunite the Community and families again. Our families, and especially our children have suffered enough.
My idea is to bring the “Big Apple” literally to Manhattan. By this, I mean to designate an area in Central Park as an apple orchard and plant apple trees.
Many families in NYC do not have the luxury of owning a car, which makes it difficult, if not impossible, for them to take their families to an apple orchard to go apple picking outside of the city. When we have this beautiful resource of Central Park, why not utilize it in the best way possible?
This could also create extra income for the City and State by charging a minimal fee to pick the apples every year. It also opens up many other opportunities to have additional children’s activities such as hayrides, pumpkin picking, apple baking contests, etc.
I truly believe that this would give families, especially in poverty-stricken neighborhoods, a chance to bring family and friends together in a healthy and fun environment and could also attract more tourists to visit our wonderful city!
Who would that help?
It would help all families in the 5 boroughs. It would also help the city and increase tourism.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
All boroughs since everyone could easily travel to Central Park.
