What problem would you like to solve?
Kids need a healthy safe place to hang out in the evenings and pursue their own interests.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Schools have around 6 hours each weekday to get kids ready for standardized tests and entering college, leaving teens feeling burned out on academics and wandering the streets for the rest of the day.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Survey kids 10-18 in Harlem to find out what they’d like to do in their free time, and any interests or hobbies that they would like help to get involved with.
Ideally, use one of the shuttered storefronts in Harlem to create a safe space for older kids to hang out with adult supervision and support, but free to pursue their own interests. Supply the space with tools and games and other materials, including perhaps a simple sound booth for audio recording, a projector for movies and documentaries, etc.Who would that help?
Adolescents who need adult help without judgement or expectation, as well as teachers and parents who want to see their kids grow up as responsible, self-motivated adults.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Neighborhood: Central Harlem
