Reduce, reuse, recycle!
What problem would you like to solve?
We would like to solve the issue of littering, since the streets are usually filled with bags of chips, cigarettes, cups, or just trash in general and it is not good for our environment.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
It is important to solve because littering pollutes our neighborhoods, decreases property values, and destroys our city's natural beauty. In addition, it can harm both people and animals. It is relevant for the community because littering affects people on a daily basis, since the neighborhoods and streets will start looking disgusting and the chemicals that litter releases as it degrades can make their way into the soil and freshwater sources, thus harming humans and the environment in general.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
We have an idea to increase the number of not only recycling bins but bins in general, since people will have normal trash and trash that can only be recycled. People might litter because there isn’t a trash can available anywhere and so, we need to add more to ensure that people stop throwing trash in the streets.
Who would that help?
That would help everyone, the community, and the environment in general.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
I believe the Bronx would benefit the most from our idea because the Bronx is mostly known to have streets filled with trash, so there should be more trash cans to make sure that the littering stops.
