What problem would you like to solve?
There are sparse opportunities to provide meaningful internships and mentorship for high school students to prepare them for Civic Engagement and political participation via social research skills development and community organizing training.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
It is important to connect students to the social and political world while equipping them with skills they can carry with them to college and or the workplace. It's relevant because as the community prepares our youth to become stewards of their own fortune, they contribute to the larger power and become more empowered as participatory citizens.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Internships and mentorship program for high school students living in NYCHA within Western Queens. This program would be centered on community organizing development via Civic Engagement and legal advocacy around issues directly impacting public housing residents. Funding would go toward Stipends for youth, facilitators and programming for community outreach and service.
Who would that help?
You and parents in public housing in Western Queens
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Queens
