    Asthma rates remain extremely high in the Bronx. Pests and environmental triggers contribute to high ED visits and hospitalizations for asthma. There are currently very few resources that are accessible for those who struggle with asthma and have asthma triggers in their home.

    Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

    Everyone is entitled to having a clean and safe home yet social determinants of health often cause certain groups to have unsafe living conditions which puts them at a higher risk of chronic diseases.

    What idea do you have to address the problem?

    Having a pest management service readily available and free for asthmatic Bronx residents may help address the root causes of their asthma hospitalizations. Ensuring this service is confidential, free, and easy to navigate/access is crucial for the success of this intervention.

    Who would that help?

    This would help children and families in the Bronx who struggle with managing their asthma. Being allergic to pests or having insurance would not be a requirement for this service.

    What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

    The BRONX!
