Program for Immigrants that Need Help Applying to Colleges
What problem would you like to solve?
It came up in the Hostos session that one student at the college had a very hard time figuring out how to apply to colleges. She is an immigrant and did not know where to look or how to get started on applications to schools or for scholarships.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Immigrants who come to New York City want the chance for a college education just as many native New Yorkers do. And the immigrant population in the Bronx is growing.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Some sort of program is needed for recent immigrants to connect them with colleges and scholarships, so that someone can explain to them the processes of applying for both. Instruction in multiple languages would be key to a program like this.
Who would that help?
Recent immigrants to the Bronx who want to go to college but need help with the application process.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Bronx
