Expand Youth Employment Program
What problem would you like to solve?
Limited job opportunities for youth, particularly from low-income families.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Job opportunities for youth (aged 14 - 24) are limited. This is particularly true for youth, who are not from well-resourced families. This lack of job opportunities early in life could limit one's career development and income potential over a life time. At the same time, disengaged youth could lead to instability in households as well as safety issues in communities.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Participating in a paid youth employment program such as the existing Summer Youth Employment Program would give young people an early chance to explore career options, a steady source of income, and bring stability to communities. The Youth Employment Program should either be expanded in scope or in duration (i.e. beyond the summer).
Who would that help?
This would not only help the participating youth but their households and the community at large.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Citywide.
