Community Music Stations
What problem would you like to solve?
Eliminate/reduce extremely loud music playing in residential neighborhoods during business hours of 8 am - 6 pm, and over night from 9 pm - 6 am. Additionally, create a standard decibel level of what is accepted from music playing in the street from a portable or car stereo.
People work from home, students need hours to focus on homework and study, and families need reprieve from a long day's work.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
To protect residential quality of life based on the impact of loud music in residential neighborhoods and the impact it has on both the physical and mental health of its residence. The Bronx is known to be the the first, if not, the second most loudest borough due to loud music and community gatherings, which is most prevalent in the summer months.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
1. Make clear and/or establish noise ordinances and regulations for local tenants, condos, co-ops, residential homes, and street disturbances. Utilize community board meetings to clarify as well as partner with News 12 and other local media to advert them as public service announcements.
2 Utilize and review 311 and police station data to evaluate history of noise complaints of loud music or parties to evaluate what and where complaints are most prevalent for initial response trials.
3 create established public areas where loud music can be played for community gatherings via public parks, repurpose and incentivized parking lots, back streets, commercial spaces, or underutilized zones at least five blocks from residential neighborhoods.
4 create a public app of where these zones are, hours of operations, and whether or not there is parking.
5 Discourage loud music from the street after a certain hour and encourage residents to complain officially via the 311 app, if they do not already know about it. May need to create regulation and penalty for repeat offenders.
Who would that help?
All local residents.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
The good ole boogie down Bronx.
