What problem would you like to solve?
We have to find new ways to handle our trash. The city is piloting containerized trash for businesses, but there is a great area of opportunity to do this with schools -- who via their meal program tend to produce significant food waste, even when schools try to reduce as much as they can.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Un-managed trash invites bugs and other animals, and others feel more inclined to dump, expecting reliable pickup for school and absolution of accountability. Prolonged use also can discolor or damage sidewalks and streets from leaking oils and other materials.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Provide schools with larger scale, enclosed containers capable of handling significant food waste, and other enclosed allotment for furniture-based items as schools often discard broken desks and chairs at a greater rate than a local residence.
Who would that help?
The schools, the residents, and even the sanitation employees who won't have to encounter tampered trash as often.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
All Five. :)
