Forever You & I and The Pride & The Proud Project
Organization Name: YVote Gender & LGBTQ+ Action Group
Project ID: 162
Project Name: Forever You & I and The Pride & The Proud Project
Neighborhood Communities that the Project will Serve: Citywide
Borough: Manhattan,Queens,Bronx,Brooklyn,Staten Island
Project Description: Our Gender & LGBTQ+ Action Groups will create forum-based enrichment programs for middle schools around all five boroughs. Teen representatives will facilitate near peer lessons on historical and contemporary figures that advocate(d) for gender justice, hold motivational seminars around debunking gender norms and creating strong gender identity and pride, and teach about the history of the LGBTQ+ community and historic and modern policies that endure.
There is very limited if any programming on gender and sexual identity in middle school yet it is a vital time of identity formation. Providing programming by near peers with authenticity to inspire and empower around the issues will help middle schoolers accept and celebrate themselves and others.
Do you remember how hard middle school could be--or are you experiencing that now? Our programming will help change the culture of middle school by providing programming to help students feel comfortable with themselves and others.
What Youth are saying about the organization: YVoters say they WISH they'd had programming like this when they were in middle school!

As a trans man who came out in middle school, I wish there had been more educational groups for my peers (and even me!) during that time. I agree that a lot of middle schools don't have adequate educational and supportive groups for LGBT youth. This is a really great idea.
