Empowering You(th) to Be the Change
Organization: Majlis Ash-Shura: Islamic Leadership Council of New York
Project Name: Empowering You(th) to Be the Change
Project ID: 133
Neighborhood/Communities that the project will serve: Citywide
Borough: Queens, Brooklyn
Project Description: Empowering You(th) to Be the Change is designed to empower youth through a series of development workshops, where youth will develop their values and goals, learn the ins-and-outs of local government and grassroots organizing, and finally develop their professional interests. The workshop series will culminate in youth refining their resumes and professional skills, and will apply to internships of their interest. Our selected youth participants will receive stipends, in addition to having the chance to meet public officials and community organizers through field trips (if COVID situation permits), in addition to the development workshops!
Our project will benefit youth by giving them the resources they need to succeed, the encouragement they need to make a difference on matters that they care about, and the guidance to actualize their goals and potential. Our youth have been neglected and our project will empower them with the tools they need to thrive.
Our project is not a one time event-rather it is a series of workshops to guide youth and help them develop the goals that matter to them. Our project is about listening to you, and assisting you with the tools you need to empower yourselves through networking, leadership and professional development.
What Youth are saying about the organization: "Flexibility and communication was basically open all the time between me and the team. I had creative freedom a lot of the time so I was able to test things out and grow in that way...ILCNY was walkways receptive of when I needed some time off or if I was anxious so that support that was really appreciated." - iGraphic Design/Marketing intern from ILCNY
