Project Description: Eckerd Connects proposes to implement a relevant and engaging project focused on educating young adults on the history of systematic racism and the implications of it on their present lives and on their communities.  The project will be led by a select group of young who are dedicated to becoming community advocates and educating their contemporaries about how they can confront racism in a safe and constructive way.

The program will help young people to become more knowledgeable about black history, racial injustice, and how to become change-agents, giving them a platform for voicing their concerns and educating their peers about these critical issues impacting their present lives as young people of color.

The Eckerd "Lights! Camera! Take Action" initiative will provide young adults the opportunity to have their voices heard and to be catalysts for change.  Working as a team, the participants will take part in educating their peers about systematic racism through the creation of workshops and Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and will take part in community activism to work toward eradicating inequality and injustice. Through participating in the project, the young people will have the opportunity to also learn about filmmaking and editing through the creation of their PSAs, in addition to the essential life skills of teamwork, public speaking, leadership, and networking!
