[Children are our future, especially when it comes to our planet. It’s no secret that we all need to dig deep and do our part to combat climate change. With foresight and understanding that through our youth we can help save our planet. At the BELL Organization we are proposing a Recycle & Climate Change Project where we would work with youth from low income communities in the northern part of the Bronx to help them obtain a better understanding on how recycling can have a positive impact on our climate. The program will run on Saturdays where we will clean up surrounding parks/playgrounds and work with a neighboring gardening community to teach them how to plant and will run until the end of the academic school year. Participating youths will be accompanied by a parent or guardian to each event we hold on that day. In order to promote youth participation we will give each student a $100 gift card to a store of their choice at the end of the program. We are hoping that the incentive will help motivate their interest in learning about climate change and help families who are financially burdened due to the ongoing pandemic. We are hoping to accomplish the following raising awareness and values by making recycling a practice from a young age among black and brown youths from low income communities, ensuring that they will take a sense of pride in themselves by wanting to take care of the planet and communities and allowing them to learn more about climate change. Instilling these values in our children at an early age will help them understand the importance of recycling, and continue to fight for change as they grow up and have children of their own. ]
