Goodvibesinthepark
Name of Your Organization:
Goodvibesinthepark
Overview of the Project - Please provide a brief description of the project.
Goodvibesinthepark was born out of a necessity to create a safe space centering people of color during a very turbulent climate of inequality and racial reckoning in America, specifically on the human rights injustice of racism, public health disparities and inequities. The youth can, should and will play a pivotal role in creating this safe space and for them to do so, they must be empowered and equipped with a multi-faceted skillset.
After an open call, selected youth will make up a group of Goodvibesinthepark Young Curators (GYC) who will be trained in developing, curating and implementing a gathering to mark Juneteenth through a day of intentional outdoor programming at Harlem’s St. Nicholas Park.
In planning this gathering called Juneteenthinthepark which will take place on Saturday, June 19th, GYC youth will learn skills such as: goal-setting, developing a step-by-step plan often required in programming, marketing, creating a run of show, talent booking, post-event evaluation, civic-engagement and more, all of which must adhere to COVID 19 safety protocols (social distancing, mask wearing, sanitizer usage & any other guidance by Department of Health for NYC). Planning this gathering will also imbibe in them the importance and a practical way of stewarding public spaces and curating projects around cultural representation.
Expected Juneteenthinthepark activities include guided meditation, performances by local musicians, a session focused on wellness and mental health, as well dance yoga, a session how to become a social justice advocate, guest speakers, a Juneteenth historian and a live jazz soul band.

- Selecting the materials and creating a Juneteenth themed bags with materials and resources geared towards health & wellness related materials to be distributed to attendees. The bag will consist of mental health, wellness and self-care materials, resources and tools for young people.
