Fund Big Apple Leadership Academy for the Arts, Inc. and The Empire Marching Elite
The performing arts can provide the opportunity for youth to be able to boost their confidence, learn new skills, sharpen the mind, add to their knowledge, and express themselves among other things. My proposal is to aid the Big Apple Leadership Academy for the Arts, Inc. and their Empire Marching Elite band program. Their mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of youth in New York City through musical, visual and enrichment experiences. Under their program, they house a marching band that aims to bring HBCU marching style back to Brooklyn. Under this organization is also the BALAA Beauties and the BALAA Brawns which gives members ages 5 to 18 the opportunity to explore different genres of art, attain mentors, and attend outings as it pertains to performing arts and other empowerment activities. With financial assistance, this program would be able to reach more members of our community and provide other opportunities within the arts that we have already been working to achieve such as piano lessons, violin lessons, chorus, etc. We would also be able to take our children on trips to be able to learn more about different colleges and the college process including auditioning especially at our HBCUs. This would give our youth more opportunities to start thinking about college and how to better prepare for their future. It gives them a space to express themselves and develop socially as they gain a second family in the members of the program. They are taught how to play the instruments and do not need any prior experience.

This program is one of kind in Brooklyn and can have such a positive impact on the community if we had the chance to reach more people.
