- The government looks at disabilities of those that can function in society. There are those who are more challenged and need a place to call home so to speak where they can live and also have their own community.
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- Housing for individuals with disabilites is very limited for those with behaviors as well as medical needs. There should be a way that the city can build acommunity of homes where there is also a community of stores that these individuals can work and shop in, a farm that they can grow their own vegetables and hold famers markets, a stable for them to ride horses as well as take care of the horses, restaurants they can run and eat at. Alot of the behavioral individuals hardly get to go out with the group homes they are a part of for lack of willingness to take them for fear of a behavior coming out. If there was a way to make a community just for these individuals my heart would be full. I have one that can be at any moment behavioral and for that reason she never gets to go out with her group home except to doctors which is also part of group home setting. They have a right to be able to function in they community, even if it is with their own kind. There is alot of land in Staten Island that is not developed and can be used for this purpose.
