- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- We need more extracurricular programs during the school year and summer when school is out which will take the youth off the streets and offer them baseball and book learning and on to the pathway to college and success in baseball and life. There is little to no funding for this. The baseball leagues and programs which do exist only emphasize baseball and to \"go pro\". They do not prepare the youth for college and for life. The odds of getting drafted to the MLB or going pro is like a one in a million in a lottery. One must emphasize using the baseball and skills and lessons learned for college and for life.
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- Create afterschool and extracurricular programs and services all inclusive which will take the youth off the streets and also concentrate on baseball and books. Cubs Sports, Inc. is a non-profit which has done so in the Bronx by offering baseball instruction and a competitive schedule but also offering tutoring, book learning, counseling, mentoring and tutoring with those who have come before them and who rose from the Bronx to succeed in all walks of life. It is a false narrative and premise to emphasize to the youth to \"go pro\". It is a crap shoot. To be picked in the MLB draft where there are only 30 teams picking with 20 draft picks available, 600 + in total, out of the million(s) of high schoolers, college players, amateurs, and international players from Latin America, Japan, Korea, China and all around the world is like a one in a million chance. It is best to use the baseball to obtain a college scholarship, go to college and be a success in any of a number of careers in life. Even if one is uniquely talented and is drafted, one can be injured through no fault of his own and his career may be ended. Now what? Complete your education! Prepare for life! We have highly trained individuals who played ball, taught and coached and who excelled in college and in various careers in life and who will mentor and guide the youth in English and Spanish. Youth will learn to make their pitch and pitch a \"shut out\" and not be \"shut out\"!
