- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- The goverment/DOT gave too many previlages to bycylist of all kinds. They have bike lanes and still drive wherever and however they like. They do not stop at red lights, nor stop signs, drive in between cars, in the opposite directions, thus creating dangerous situations on the road leading to accidents and/or death. Often times they don't wear helmets. In those cases, even though it might be the bycyclist's fault, still the auto driver is found in fault. Why? because cars are insured, bycycled are not. This is absolutely unfair! Not to mention that adding more bike lanes created more traffic, like we haven't have enough of it already. In the meantime, DOT keeps lowering the speed limit, which means cars are longer on the road to get to destination and this creates more polution as well!
- What is the solution to the challenge?
- All kinds of bycyclists should be licensed and ticketed, just like all the auto drivers. There could be a small fee to get it at DMV/DOT. All bycycles and scooters should have assigned plates. Running thru the red light would be captured on the camera thus making the owner responsible for paying the tickets. Only then they will obey the rules. All of these would bring profit to the NYC and most importantly CREATE SAFER CONDITIONS on the roads! Another idea is to ticket the pedestrians for crossing the crossroad on red light and on crossing in the middle of the street! No matter how the car drivers are carefull, how slow they drive, if the bycyclists and/or pedestrians don't do the same, the problem will continue rise. We need to put a stop to it and create laws/conditions to safe lives. Lowering the speed limit have proved not to work in anybody's favor.
