- Because of its geography and projected sea level rise, Coney Island could be underwater by the end of the century. Students aren't learning about climate change or its solutions in school. The Resilient Schools Consortium (RiSC) program works with community partners to educate students about climate impacts, climate justice and resilience solutions and engages them in planting beach grass to stabilize dunes, prevent erosion, and protect nearby homes from flooding. - Education, community engagement, habitat restoration = climate resiliency, intergenerational connections = social resilience, bringing awareness to the community could lead to more city resources flowing to Coney island residents, exposure to green careers for local youth.
