- Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
- My ideas are for all of New York + other states. Homelessness, try to get these people off the streets/ shelters by trying to connect them with family members, see why they are on the streets/ shelters and what assistance can be offered. The money the city pays to keep some in hotels. The city might as well buys the hotels, help the able body ones to get jobs and pay an affordable rent. Paying the hotels hundreds of thousands of dollars to house them is not the answer. Some of these people can be rehabilitated & care for themselves. It would be great to see them off the streets and trains and I am sure some family members are looking for them too. Yes alot need’s some mental issues. Disabled & elderly it’s very sad to see these individuals on public transportation, I think access a ride should play a more effective role by providing services not only to doctors appointments but to the supermarkets, malls, even work as a taxi service, etc; and charge an affordable fee $3+ each way depending on the service. The elderly and disabled people have a hard time moving around especially on the bus, sometimes it’s too many of them they have to stand or it’s just too much for them mentally and physically, like the people in wheelchairs or just old age. I think that would be a great idea transportation just for disabled and elderly, if they have a nurse that person will pay too for assisting them. Housing prices are outrageous, we need to create AFFORDABLE housing, although there is the New York connect housing website most of the price are very high and not affordable, we need to create more affordable prices under $2000 & why are the lower prices ones in the Bronx or in the not so great areas that need's to be improved. Flooding alot of the areas needs new drainage systems, $5M is not going to fix this problem. The city needs to install new drainage pipes and some streets needs drainage at the corners. If more pumps are needed that would be great especially in the flood areas. Youths, I think schools needs to start by implementing job training classes in all schools especially in high schools and all schools should offer these classes as a mandatory class providing, resume writing, job interviewing/dressing skills and communication skills for the real work world. If I recall they used to off a sex class, which they still needs to do. Along with these classes they need to show them websites on how to seek employment and additional resources online, employment training, medical assistance , social services help, etc. I think most of them are lost especially if they are not going to college. They schools needs to better prepare them. I feel that’s why most of them end up in trouble because they have no guidance on how to seek employment and conduct themselves on interviews or dress, they teacher needs to do role play with them and other assistance available to them. I can sit here and saw a lot more. I hope these ideas would be of great consideration. Thank you.
