- Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
- The Inspired Community Project, Inc. is a nonprofit research organization dedicated to creating an inclusive space for high-quality special education instruction, resources, and career opportunities in the community. We believe in equal accessibility for all, regardless of location or background.\n\nOur mission is to establish self-sustaining, local special education communities through rigorous research focusing on best practices in direct instruction, family advocacy support, and workforce development. By combining applied research with a foundation in direct instruction, hands-on support, and a people-centric approach, our data-backed findings lay a sustainable groundwork for future generations in the special education community. Our ultimate vision is to ensure equitable access to special education services and resources.\n\nLaunching in the Bronx in Early 2024, our center-based Early Intervention program employs an interdisciplinary approach based on current research. We also conduct research on best practices in Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech, Occupational, and Play Therapy. Recognizing the vital role of families, our early intervention is family-centered. We offer advocacy coaching, Special Education roadmaps for navigating the NYC education system, and accessible resources.\n\nThis program equips families not only with the tools to navigate the complex Early Intervention and Department of Education systems but also empowers them to advocate effectively for their child's specific needs. We've cultivated a supportive community around our families, alleviating feelings of isolation and overwhelm, and bolstering their readiness for the challenges ahead.\n\nOur staff may join us with minimal experience, but our intensive training curriculum allows them to leave as Registered Behavior Technicians® (RBT®) - a valuable certification opening doors to higher-paying direct service positions. Through strategic partnerships, we facilitate placements with our Programmatic Partners. Additionally, we offer free on-site childcare for our staff.
