Trade Skills and Vocational Resources for Students
The media and entertainment industry offers thousands of opportunities for careers with family sustaining wages that do not require a college degree. However, gaining access to these jobs often requires industry knowledge and professional networks. Over six months, Reel Works will train 24 Manhattan high school students to be ready to work as production assistants in film and television through immersive, hands-on learning experiences. Field trips to studios including Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBCUniversal and Netflix will introduce diverse industry career pathways while building personal connections for future employment. Participants will build essential workforce readiness skills, engage with guest speakers, and create a personal career plan. Additionally, weekend workshops will engage another 50 students in hands-on training with industry professionals in grip, lighting, set dressing, makeup, hair styling, and post production. Students will gain an understanding of the industry and the thousands of career opportunities available.
