Project Description:
Green City Force’s innovative workforce development model involving hands-on training through service provides young NYC adults from low-income communities experience, professional certifications, youth development support, leadership and career advancement opportunities for jobs in a green, inclusive economy. Graduates advance across sectors ranging from green construction, energy efficiency, urban agriculture, green infrastructure, zero waste and community health, and can use a Segal AmeriCorps education award to pursue further training and/or college. Our Career Services team supports members and alumni with job placement, continued career counseling, access to technical training and professional development networking opportunities. As we continually ramp up our strategies to engage our alumni living and working in Staten Island as well as additional young adults in Staten Island eligible for our program, our intention is to build on our track record of creating access to opportunities for frontline young adults in NYC to enter the green economy through service, then into pathways of advancement and increased economic mobility over time with additional training, skills-building, benefits, and wage increases.
Funding Amount: $177,000
