Your Money, Your Community, Your Voice.
Bosnian Herzegovinian Islamic Center NY - Religious Freedom
What problem would you like to solve?
Religious discrimination and xenophobia.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
During the Trump administration's "Muslim ban" and COVID-19's isolation, there was a sharp rise in attacks on Muslims nationally. Though attributable to a time, this violence is enduring and causes centers, churches, and communities to compete for resources rather than elevate on another.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Imam Idriz saw an opportunity to sow seeds of good faith. Using the participatory budgeting process, Idriz hopes to continue his TRI-Faith fellowship. That is, BHICNY opens its doors to those that practice Christians, Judaism, and Islam. Demonstrating that we are all neighbors, he helps eliminate systemic prejudice against Muslims and misperceptions. And though Bosnian-led, BHICNY also welcomes other ethnicities looking for a spiritual home.
Who would that help?
Those that suffer from religious violence.
What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?
Queensbridge, LIC
