The People's Money (2022-2023)
Your Money, Your Community, Your Voice.
Health and wellbeing project
What problem would you like to solve?
Have more access to healthcare. not everyone has insurance and it is important that everyone receives healthcare, especially after the pandemic. A lot of elderly people do not have insurance or money to be seen by a doctor. This is especially prevalent in communities of color and immigrant communities, where you may have a lot of people who are undocumented and otherwise wouldnt qualify for certain public services and healthcare.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
There are a lot of smokers in the community. More people are prone to asthma. The community is also dirty; there is garbage everywhere and rats that are filling the community with bacteria and infections. There is a higher health risk when living in poor conditions.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Have a designated doctor for people. It could be a free doctor visit, once every six months/year. They could do free physicals in an existing space. You can expand the services that are offered in some public clinics in the community, giving medical professionals more funding so they can provide very basic healthcare and preventative care to patients in the community.
Who would that help?
This will help anyone who does not have insurance.
What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?
Washington Heights/Inwood
