Sanitation awareness
What problem would you like to solve?
Spreading Sanitation/compost awareness. This would help with rat and pest issues and prevent resources from ending up in landfills.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
We currently let a large amount of food waste go to landfills. Instead if more people composted, then a lot of this could go back to replenish our soil. This would also minimize rodents and pets by using the separate, better containers for food scraps.
Better education about what can and should be recycled helps streamline the recycling process, allowing for faster sorting in facilities.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
- Educate students about garbage, recycling, and compost in schools. School trips to sanitation and composting sites/facilities
- Install compost containers throughout the city
- Add stalls to farmer’s markets with composting and recycling demos and more information
- Develop some way to have a liquid disposal so that people can drain containers before putting them into a recycling bin
Who would that help?
Everyone gets to have a cleaner city with less rats and insects and sanitation gets to have an easier time.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
