    What problem would you like to solve?

    Increase the number of black and brown young people who learn to swim, train to lifeguards and water safety instructors. Positively impact the lifeguard crisis in our city and provide young people certified employability opportunities that engage them as stakeholders to a healthy community.

    Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

    The Bronx has a despicable number of statistics when it comes to black and brown children drowning. Healthy living inclusive of exercise, safe places to learn and opportunities for employment.

    What idea do you have to address the problem?

    I want to figure out a way for Department of education, department of health and department of parks to work together to ensure the pools that are not functioning are fixed and the ones that are functioning are used to it’s maximum capacity with programs like MVP that provide the programming, training, certifications and in some cases the employment opportunities.
