What problem would you like to solve?
Currently, you can ride your bike safely (protected from traffic by parked cars) throughout most of Manhattan… EXCEPT between 125 and 155. Why is there this massive gap where bike riding means weaving in and out of traffic around double-parked cars, or biking on sidewalks and endangering pedestrians?
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
We need to encourage more bicycle commuting for public health and safety, easing parking and traffic congestion, and for the environment. Unfortunately, biking in much of Harlem is extremely hazardous and frustrating!
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Assess the need for, and best location to connect the protected bike lanes elsewhere in Manhattan through Harlem. Also, promote bicycle riding with educational outreach and programs offering cheap bikes and free helmets and lights.
Who would that help?
Drivers not having to worry about bikes in their blindspot, cyclists not being afraid to rider on the roads, and pedestrians not being crowded by bikes on the sidewalk. Also, the Earth and future generations!
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Manhattan
