What problem would you like to solve?
Providing an emergency fund for individuals that are in need of healthcare services and cannot afford to do it on their own.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Given the recent COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare accessibility has become a major issue among individuals. There's a sizable amount of individuals who cannot afford healthcare or simply don't have access to the resources they need for standard healthcare. Additionally, there are those who need access to healthcare, but refuse medical health as expenses are ridiculously high; especially for individuals in lower-income homes, people of color, emancipated minors, etc. No one asks to be sick, and it should be the responsibility of the state, even the entire country to focus on universal healthcare for its citizens. What's most baffling is that the United States is a first World country that does not have a universal healthcare system in place compared to other first-world countries such as the UK, Canada, and Switzerland.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
To set aside a portion of the budget for an emergency fund for individuals who need the money for medical operations who cannot afford to do so on their own. The pandemic has really shown that health is an extreme priority and must be taken care of financially.
Who would that help?
This would potentially help individuals of all ages and ethnicities for them to get the medical help they need.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Queens
