Murals Queens!
What problem would you like to solve?
The need of supporting the arts! The lack of funding, lack of creation, over the past two decades is a significant factor in why we've ended up where we are as a society (affecting every aspect of society's ills). We need to bring back the arts to NYC, and establish Queens as a future mecca of arts and culture! Beautify the borough, and foster a sense of community and connection.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Beyond our basic physical needs, art is such an important part of the human experience, and vital to the growth and well-being of society. Art provides perspective, insight and understanding for every aspect of our existence, and context to our present, history and future. It helps us find answers to life's bigest questions. And it's only in understanding ourselves, each other and society at large that we are able to truly connect, and work towards creating real and sustainable change for us all.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Murals! The most public and communal form of art, murals bring its access and benefits directly to the people. Having murals painted throughout the borough of Queens both supports the arts by supporting the artists themselves, as well as by connecting the community through the expression of that art, which would celebrate the people and cultures of the most diverse borough! It could pay homage to the history of the borough /NYC, as well as address all kinds of issues such as racism and immigration, etc. (Or even a memorial of sorts for those we've lost to the pandemic.) Because that is what art is for! Art heals- it connects, helps us grow and makes us better.
Who would that help?
Everyone! The community, society, humanity! (pandemic survivers, all cultures and diverse identities, youg, old, and future generations...)
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Queens
