What problem would you like to solve?
Asian Americans spend 100% more on education than any other group indicating the importance of education in their culture. Lower income Asian Americans however cannot afford to pursue their passions and are often in overcroweded schools with scarce public resources.
The ratio of school counselors to students in middle schools and high schools are often in excess of 100 students to 1 counselor. Information and guidance is the foundation for any student especially immigrants who are not familiar with the educational system.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Without resouces to pursue their passion many Asian American students are being left behind. And inequity exists where there are not enough resources for educational guidance, an area that the Asian community puts as their greatest priority for their students. Asians are feeling targeted and marginalized for pursuing educational advancement, something they are passionate about.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Bi-lingual workshops to supplement guidance on how to apply for high schools and colleges. Past un-funded bi-lingual community seminars on high school and college admissions have drawn large attendance. Funding would allow for expanding these workshops to serve more students and recruiting more speakers and advisors.
Who would that help?
The Asian immigrant community and youth
