What problem would you like to solve?
Lack of effective communication at all municipal governmental events and press conferences. We need ASL interpreters, closed captioning and audio descriptions at government events and press conferences in New York City. This is a civil right.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
It is important that all New Yorkers be able to receive and provide information about their government and the services provided.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
First, require all City agencies, the City Council and the Mayor to hold their meetings, events and press conferences in accessible locations with accessible restrooms, ASL interpreters, readable closed captioning and audio descriptions of documents, charts and other things displayed during the meetings, events and press conferences and provide a virtual platform that is real-time interactive and has ASL interpreters, readable and closed captioning and chat that you can save as well as audio descriptions of documents, charts and other things displayed during the meetings, events and press conferences.
Who would that help?
All New Yorkers, but especially New Yorkers who have hearing loss, are deaf, have low vision and who are blind. If the captioning was savable that would be helpful to everyone.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
