What problem would you like to solve?
- The space on Delancey Street under the Williamsburg Bridge is an unsafe eyesore that serves little purpose beyond illegal activity and a dumping ground for dog feces.
- The need for green spaces is increasingly butting up against the need for affordable housing, as we have seen in the long-running tussle over the fate of the Elizabeth Street Garden.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
- This space is often deserted and unsafe for area families, especially those living in NYCHA's nearby Baruch Houses. Residents in the area deserve safe, recreational spaces, especially while the East River Park is closed for construction.
- The city needs both green spaces and affordable housing.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Convert the space along Delancey Street under the Williamsburg Bridge in to a green space. It will make the area safer, put unused space to use and open a new park in a space that can't possibly be used for housing.
Who would that help?
- Area residents who avoid the area because of safety concerns
- People who want more green spaces
- People who need more affordable housing
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Manhattan
