Yourh Relations: Police Interactions
What problem would you like to solve?
The lack of knowledge that teens have when it comes to interacting with the police and bettering the relationships between cops and the youth.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
Most teens don't know their rights, or how to interact with cops and wouldn't know what to do in a situation when a cop stops them for no reason. Knowing the right information can stop police brutality, lower the fear of police interaction, and feeling more secure in one's neighborhood.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Create a program where teens can learn about police interactions and their rights as citizens, so they won't feel scared or stop police from abusing their power. Having cops be the ones giving this presentation can show teens that cops are here for the right reasons and that they can count on them when they are needed but as well teach them when a cop isn't doing the right thing and should be reported.
Who would that help?
The youth
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Queens
